ABOUT THE TRAINER

Certified Dog Trainer/Behaviour Therapist of Canine Correspondence Studies
Jackie De Sousa, CTB.ccs

I’ve been an animal lover since childhood, with a particular connection to dogs. This bond led me to volunteer at a local humane society in high school and later work at a dog daycare in my early 20s. It was during these experiences that I developed an interest in dog training and behaviour therapy, which ultimately led me to enroll in the Canine Correspondence Studies program to become a certified positive reinforcement dog trainer, behaviour, fear and aggression therapist.

Seeing the high number of dogs surrendered to shelters each year, largely due to behavioural issues stemming from poor training and lack of socialization, drove me to want to make a difference.

I’m dedicated to educating dog owners about canine behaviour and communication, using positive reinforcement techniques to help them build strong, healthy relationships with their dogs.

Animal welfare is at the heart of my approach. I believe that fear, pain, and punishment have no place in training, and I focus on methods that promote trust, positive associations, and the development of confident, well-behaved dogs.

THE RESIDENT DOGS

Dahlia is a 9-year-olf shepherd/lab mix with a bright, sweet, and playful personality. Her unique quirks and sensitivities have helped me grow as a trainer. She’s always up for an adventure and is an amazing companion on every journey we take together.

Tikka is an 11-year-old retriever/lab mix, and she’s my steady, reliable companion. Intelligent, affectionate, and friendly, she’s always ready to offer her love. With a nose that’s unmatched, she’s in her element when outdoors, particularly in the winter.

Canines on Track uses 100% Positive Reinforcement techniques, a reward-based approach that encourages desirable behaviours while discouraging unwanted ones. We avoid all aversive methods and operate with a completely fear and punishment free philosophy. Backed by scientific research, Positive Reinforcement training is the most effective way to shape and modify canine behaviour, resulting in happy, well-behaved dogs and strong, trusting relationships with their owners.
